Foster

Foster is set during a hot summer in rural Ireland, where a child is taken by her father to live with relatives on a farm. She does not know when or if she will return home. In the Kinsella household, she experiences affection and warmth she has not previously known, and begins to flourish under their care. However, the household holds something unspoken beneath its well-tended surface, and the summer must eventually end. The novel won the Davy Byrnes Award and was published in abridged form in the New Yorker. This full, standalone edition marks its first US release. The book explores themes of childhood, loss, and love with emotional depth.
