About this book

Genesis is set on an isolated island fortress in a future society. Anax has studied the history of the distant twenty-first century extensively and is taking a grueling all-day examination. If she passes, she will be admitted to the Academy, the elite governing institution of her utopian society. During her examination, Anax begins to discover that the history she has learned is incomplete, and the Academy is not what she believed it to be. The novel explores questions about technology and humanity, artificial intelligence, and the nature of consciousness through Anax's experience. It examines whether a machine can achieve consciousness and what the relationship between such a machine and its creators should be.
