Set during the Industrial Revolution, Hungerstone follows Lenore, a wife ten years into her marriage to steel magnate Henry. When Henry's business ambitions move them from London to the remote British moorlands, a carriage accident introduces the mysterious Carmilla into their household. Carmilla appears weak and pale during daylight but becomes vibrant at night, and her presence awakens something within Lenore. As girls from nearby villages begin falling ill with a strange hunger, Lenore finds herself unraveling. Caught between her desire to restore her husband's affection and the cravings Carmilla has stirred in her, Lenore must confront an encroaching darkness that threatens her safety. This reworking of Carmilla, the novella that preceded Dracula, explores feminine rage and the desires that drive hunger through an atmospheric narrative.
