I Came Back for You: A Novel

This is the third volume in Checker Book Publishing's comprehensive reprinting of early cartoons and illustrations by Winsor McCay. Many works appear in print for the first time since their original early twentieth-century publication. The collection includes 1907 installments of "Dream of the Rarebit Fiend," McCay's best-known work alongside "Little Nemo in Slumberland," along with editorial cartoons and spot illustrations from his early New York period. It also features chapter-length reprintings of the strips "Little Sammy Sneeze" and "A Pilgrim's Progress." McCay's innovative approach to comic art in its early stages, combined with his unconventional and humorous subject matter—particularly his interest in dreams and nightmares—made him widely popular during his lifetime and influenced subsequent generations of cartoonists, illustrators, and animators.
