I Got a Monster tells the true story of the Gun Trace Task Force (GTTF), a corrupt police unit that operated in Baltimore for approximately five years. Led by sergeant Wayne Jenkins, the GTTF functioned as a criminal enterprise within the Baltimore Police Department, exploiting systemic issues including guns, drugs, and racial segregation. Within this inverted system, police officers acted as robbers, targeting drug dealers who were unlikely to report crimes to authorities. The unit's criminal activities included robbery, racketeering, planting heroin to cover up a fatal crash from a botched robbery, stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars, falsifying video evidence, and forging documents. A homicide detective was killed the day before he was scheduled to testify against the officers. When the federal government arrested the GTTF in 2017, victims' accounts revealed the scope of the criminal operation.
