Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah

A sequel to Jonathan Livingston Seagull, this novel follows two barnstorming vagabonds who meet in the Midwest and embark on a mystical adventure that explores new perspectives on reality and miracles. In the airspace above Illinois cornfields, Richard Bach, a disillusioned writer and itinerant barnstormer, pilots his biplane. His faith in flight is tested when he meets Donald Shimoda, a former mechanic who claims to be a messiah and demonstrates seemingly impossible abilities. Through their journey, Bach explores themes about human potential, the meaning found in difficult circumstances, and the idea that messiahs can appear in unexpected places—from hay fields and small Midwestern towns to within ourselves.
