Jane: A Pin-Up at War

Jane was a wartime phenomenon and sensation that significantly boosted morale among Britain's fighting forces worldwide and civilians on the Home Front. Her fame was so widespread that a wartime MP referenced troops as "Jane's fighting men" in the House of Commons. Until now, no published study has examined Jane or the real woman who inspired her. This book addresses that gap by combining text, photographs, and selected cartoons to explore the Jane story in depth, with particular focus on the real-life model behind it: Christabel Leighton-Porter. The publication draws on extensive pictorial and photographic material, much of it previously unpublished and of high quality. A significant portion falls into the glamour category, appealing to both male and female readers. The book presents an illustrated study of wartime Britain and Jane's historical and sociological significance during that era.
