Lady Macbeth: A Novel

Ava Reid reimagines Lady Macbeth, Shakespeare's famous villain, by giving her a voice, past, and power that reshape the narrative written about her. The Lady possesses knowledge of stories claiming her eyes drive men to madness. She expects to be married to a Scottish warrior who brings his violent nature into their marriage. She understands his court is hostile and suspicious, requiring strategy and hidden witchcraft to navigate. However, she does not initially know that her husband harbors occult secrets of his own, or that prophecy protects him like armor. She remains unaware that her own magic is greater and more dangerous, with the potential to threaten the world's order—though she will come to understand this.
