About this book

In 1996, Beck Weathers joined a climbing team attempting to reach the summit of Mount Everest. A sudden storm struck the mountain, scattering the team and forcing climbers to fight for survival. Rescuers who found Weathers determined he was dying and left him behind. Twelve hours later, he inexplicably reappeared, walking down the mountain despite being blinded, without gloves, and covered in ice. This memoir recounts Weathers's escape from hypothermia and the storm that killed eight climbers on the mountain. It also traces his path to mountaineering, the events of the fateful expedition, and his recovery afterward. The narrative covers his survival against overwhelming odds, his effort to rebuild his family and life, and the challenge of accepting a second chance at living.
