Leviathan's Blood: Book Two of the Children Trilogy

Following the events of The Godless, Mireea lies in ruins with its dead risen as ghosts, and the keepers Fo and Bau killed by Zaifyr. The Mireeans have fled to the floating city of Yeflam, bringing the immortal Zaifyr in chains as a bargaining tool for their safety. As war threatens the Floating Cities, Zaifyr's trial becomes a focal point of political maneuvering. Zaifyr intends to use the trial to initiate a new war, raising fears that he is reverting to his dangerous past self. Ayae, a young woman cursed with fire powers, sees an opportunity to develop her abilities in the floating city, but struggles with her new duty to protect the Mireean people. Meanwhile, exiled Baron Bueralan and cartographer Orlan arrive in the distant city of Ooila carrying an unsettling cargo: the soul of a dead man.
