Light follows three characters across time and space. Also in that future, Ed Chianese, once an adventurer who explored alien structures and stellar phenomena, has become addicted to alternate realities in tanks on New Venusport and owes debts to dangerous people. The three are connected by the mysterious Shrander and three cryptic objects discovered on an asteroid in the Kefahuchi Tract—a region of space described as an ocean of light. These objects are a deserted spaceship, a pair of bone dice, and a human skeleton. The narrative weaves together their stories across a universe where the rules are constantly made and broken.
