Lost in the Summer of '69: A Novel

Three generations of women embark on a cross-country road trip during the summer of 1969, centered around music festivals sweeping the country. Eleanor Bell, facing a medical diagnosis that may affect her ability to sing and play guitar, leaves to travel west without telling her family. When her daughter Leanne discovers her missing, she and her own daughter Nora set out to find her in their Lincoln Continental. Nora had been preparing to start as one of Yale's first female undergraduates. During their journey, they hear Eleanor on the radio—she has been dubbed the Dame of Rock n' Roll by Johnny Carson. The novel follows the three women as they travel across the country, with Nora and Leanne always one step behind Eleanor, exploring themes of family, music, and making the most of life's final chapters.
