Madwoman

Clove has constructed an elaborate life built on lies and secrets, complete with a safe husband and two children who know nothing of the violence that defined her childhood. She manages her buried anxiety through supplements and meditation, but when a letter arrives from a women's prison in California, her carefully hidden past forces its way into her present. The narrative moves between Clove's current life in Portland, Oregon and her childhood in a Waikiki high-rise with her mother and father, as she confronts the defining day of her life. The novel explores how she survived that day, whether she can break the cycle of violence, and what will happen if the truth emerges. It examines motherhood, loss, and the lengths women go to protect themselves and each other.
