About this book

Mort is a satirical fantasy novel set in the Discworld series. When Death—a black-robed skeleton with glowing blue eyes, a scythe, and a fondness for cats—decides he needs help, he offers a job to a cheerfully hapless young man named Mort. As Death's apprentice, Mort receives free board, use of the company horse, and another chance at life. The position seems ideal until Mort falls in love with Ysabell, Death's daughter. His romantic involvement with his boss's daughter creates complications for his work life. Death himself is portrayed as eternally baffled by humanity, yearning to understand what human life truly offers. Mort is the first book in the Death series within the Discworld novels. The series also includes Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, and Thief of Time. The Discworld novels can be read in any order.
