About this book

A woman's body is found in the heather with a broken neck, initially appearing accidental. DI Callum MacLean, a Scottish detective newly transferred to Hampshire from Glasgow, quickly determines the death was murder. DS Daisy Donaldson, arriving on horseback, identifies the victim as Mary-Ellen Mitchell, a well-known businesswoman married to a respected local artist and member of the close-knit community. MacLean must adjust to his new team and surroundings, his experience policing Glasgow contrasting sharply with the pace and customs of Fordingbridge. Despite being welcomed by Daisy, he begins to suspect he is being manipulated. If he can navigate the complications and coordinate his team effectively, they may apprehend the killer concealed in the forest. This is the first novel in Carol Cole's detective series set in the New Forest landscape. The second book in the series, Straw in the Wind, is also available.
