Fifty-five-year-old Peg has lived a lonely life. During a snowy drive home to her cottage in the Cotswolds before Christmas, her car becomes stuck in traffic. There she meets Henry, also stranded on the road. Over a homemade mince pie and hot tea, the two strike up a conversation and find an easy connection. Peg realizes it has been a long time since she felt this way. Henry is single and heading to spend Christmas with his daughter-in-law's family in a nearby village. Before they can exchange contact information, the traffic clears and they are separated. Peg does not expect to see him again. Days later, Henry appears at her door asking for help. Peg must decide whether to open her heart and become involved, risking vulnerability, or to retreat as she has always done.
