One Green Bottle follows several passengers on a cruise ship. Paul Martin and his wife Jayne are traveling to escape following the death of their daughter. Jefferson Ochiltree III and his wife are fleeing America to avoid exposure of Jefferson's hidden life. Estelle DeLuca has brought her sister aboard to execute a plan, while Jonny Mountain has his own undisclosed reasons for being on the cruise. The narrative centers on observation and overheard conversations among the passengers. Ten people visit a scenic viewpoint, but only nine return. Three days earlier, all had boarded the same cruise carrying secrets and silent motives. Each passenger has reasons to disappear and reasons to kill. The central mystery is not who committed a crime, but who did not.
