About this book

In the third Maisie Dobbs novel, London investigator and psychologist Maisie Dobbs takes on a case that returns her to painful WWI memories. Sir Cecil Lawton seeks her help following a deathbed plea from his wife, Agnes. Agnes never accepted that her aviator son was killed in the Great War, a loss that drove her toward spiritualism and those who claim to commune with the spirit world. As Maisie investigates the mystery surrounding Ralph Lawton's death, her spiritual strength is tested, as is her relationship with her mentor, Maurice Blanche. The case also reunites her with her college friend Priscilla Evernden, who served in France during the war and lost three brothers. One of Priscilla's brothers had a connection to the missing Ralph Lawton.
