Sisters of the Raven

In the Yellow City, magic has traditionally been wielded by men to sustain civilization—healing the sick, calling rains, and protecting grain stores. When the magical wells begin to run dry and the Sun Mages lose their powers, magic inexplicably begins to appear in women instead. The shift provokes a swift and hostile reaction from men. Raeshaldis, the only female student of magic, is refused instruction by mages who can no longer perform the spells themselves. Corn-Tassle Woman's emerging powers offer no protection from her abusive husband. The Summer Concubine must maintain her role as consort while her Raven sisters face mounting danger. As famine spreads, fanatics riot, and slaves rebel, the most gifted female magic-workers begin disappearing. The crisis forces these women to navigate a society in upheaval while confronting those who would suppress their newfound abilities.
