So Far Gone: A Novel

Rhys Kinnick has withdrawn from society, living in a cabin in the woods after punching his conspiracy-theorist son-in-law and abandoning his smartphone. Years later, his estranged daughter goes missing, and her children are taken by members of a dangerous militia. Forced back into the world he abandoned, Kinnick—a failed husband and father with no internet connection and a barely functioning car—must attempt a rescue. With assistance from his caustic ex-girlfriend, a bipolar retired detective, and his only friend (who is angry with him), Kinnick embarks on a journey through modern America to find his grandchildren and locate his daughter. The novel follows this road trip across a fractured nation, exploring themes of family, isolation, and contemporary American life.
