Tall Man in Ray-Bans (A John Tall Wolf Novel Book 1)

Two young boys exploring the dry bed of Lake Travis in Austin, Texas discover a skeleton that may belong to Randy Bear Heart, a fugitive wanted for robbing three banks and killing three police officers who evaded capture for twenty-five years. The FBI and the Bureau of Indian Affairs are both called to investigate how Bear Heart avoided arrest and who placed him in the lake in chains. Special Agent John Tall Wolf of the BIA is assigned to the case because one of the murdered officers was a Native American who worked at the Mercy Ridge Reservation. The FBI requests that John coordinate his efforts through SAC Gilbert Melvin, but John refuses, insisting he will conduct his investigation independently. His relationship with his own supervisor, Marlene Flower Moon, head of the BIA's Office of Justice Services, is also strained. During John's job interview, Marlene questioned his assertiveness, asking what he wanted—a license to take scalps—to which John agreed.
