Tangerine: A Coming-of-Age Tale of Soccer, Family, Friendship, and Belonging

Paul Fisher wears thick glasses that make him look unusual, but his vision problems don't prevent him from noticing strange occurrences in his family's new home in Tangerine County, Florida. A sinkhole swallows the local school, underground fires burn for years, and lightning strikes at the same time daily. Paul's adjustment to life there is difficult, especially with constant harassment from his football-star brother. When Paul joins the soccer team at his middle school, things begin to change. His new teammates help him uncover what lies beneath the surface of his strange hometown and give him the courage to confront family secrets that have been hidden from him. Through soccer and friendship, Paul discovers a sense of belonging and begins to come into his own.
