Tao Te Ching: Text Only Edition

This translation of the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu has served as the standard version for nearly two generations. Jane English and editor Toinette Lippe have revised and refreshed the translation to more accurately reflect the Classical Chinese original while accounting for changes in modern language and removing outdated phrasing. The philosophy presented emphasizes accepting circumstances as they are rather than resisting them. It teaches studying and working with the natural order of things instead of against it, since attempting to force change creates resistance. Nature provides abundantly without expectation of payment or gratitude, and without discrimination. The text suggests presenting the same demeanor to all people and treating them equally regardless of their behavior. According to this philosophy, work flows more quickly and easily when effort is reduced, when results are not pursued, and when trying ceases. In a still and open mind, truth reflects clearly.
