About this book

In 2010, a comet strikes Earth off the California coast, vaporizing the region and sending fiery rain across the globe. A safe zone emerges in southeast Africa and southern Madagascar, where damage is extensive but survivable. A luxury cruise ship, the Queen of Africa, carrying 600 leading engineers and their families, survives the impact. The engineers were attending a seminar focused on solutions to humanity's fundamental needs: shelter, food, energy, and environmental preservation. When comet shock waves ripple worldwide, passengers abandon ship and head to the South African coast to begin rebuilding. In KwaZulu Natal, they encounter a surviving community of approximately 25,000 people, including experienced agricultural and industrial workers. Though physically reduced to Stone Age conditions, these survivors possess 21st-century technological knowledge and access to natural resources necessary for an industrial revolution. What follows is an epic effort to rebuild civilization from scratch in an unpredictable and sometimes hostile environment, where survival itself becomes the ultimate challenge.
