Rube Goldberg (1883–1970) was a cartoonist, humorist, sculptor, author, engineer, and inventor who created nearly 50,000 cartoons over a 72-year career. He was the most famous cartoonist of his time, known for his comical inventions that were syndicated in daily newspapers worldwide. His name became an adjective in the dictionary, defined as accomplishing by complex means what could seemingly be done simply.
