Kathleen Harriman, daughter of U.S. ambassador to the Soviet Union Averell Harriman, was a war correspondent and champion skier. Sarah Churchill, an actress-turned-RAF officer, was devoted to her father Winston Churchill. Anna Roosevelt, the president's only daughter, was chosen to accompany Franklin D. Roosevelt instead of her mother, Eleanor, and served as keeper of her father's most damaging secrets. Tensions at the conference threatened to fracture the wartime alliance between Roosevelt, Churchill, and Joseph Stalin as victory in World War II approached. The decisions made during this one week would lead to fifty years of Soviet control over half of Europe and initiate the Cold War.
