The Divine Within: Selected Writings on Enlightenment

This anthology collects twenty-six spiritual essays and writings by Aldous Huxley on enlightenment and ultimate reality. Huxley examines the nature of God, enlightenment, being, good and evil, religion, eternity, and the divine. Throughout his work, he investigates the spiritual basis of both individuals and human society, using the lens of the Perennial Philosophy to seek an authentic experience of the divine. The collection includes an introduction by religious scholar Huston Smith. The writings are organized around four main areas: The Nature of Consciousness, exploring Huxley's analysis of the mind and potential liberation from the ego; Mysticism East and West, examining common ground between spiritual traditions including Christian mysticism, Meister Eckhart, Vedanta, and Zen Buddhism; The Path to Enlightenment, discussing the roles of meditation, contemplation, and self-transcendence in achieving direct knowledge of the divine Ground; and Religion and Reality, offering a critique of symbolic religion and arguing for immediate, personal experience of ultimate reality.
