About this book

The Glass Slide World is the sequel to The Naturalist Society, following twenty-one-year-old Ava Stanley, daughter of two celebrated Arcane Taxonomists. Set in 1902, the novel explores Ava's journey as she develops her magical abilities. Unlike her parents, who draw power from spectacular birds and megafauna, Ava's connection to the natural world stems from the microscopic. Her ability to work with bacteria and disease proves useful in her pursuit of becoming a doctor. When Ava boards a ship to Nassau to continue her research, her plans are disrupted when pirates take control of the vessel. Faced with danger, mystery, and the stirrings of war, Ava forms connections with her fellow travelers. Through these relationships, she discovers that every small element of the world carries the power to either strengthen or destroy it.
