The Hebrew Bible: Feminist and Intersectional Perspectives

This volume offers an introduction and essays examining the four major sections of the Hebrew Scriptures through the work of leading female biblical scholars: the Torah/Pentateuch, the Deuteronomistic History (Joshua–2 Kings), the Prophets and Prophecy, and the Writings including the Book of Daniel. The essays employ historical critical and literary textual analysis and exegesis, approached through feminist and intersectional interpretive frameworks. Intersectional perspectives address racial/ethnic, class, Global South, and postcolonial dimensions, and their connections with gender. The editor's introduction establishes feminist intersectional biblical scholarship and argues that this approach addresses perspectives absent from standard survey texts: feminist and intersectional concerns regarding female characters, sexual assumptions, sexual and domestic violence, the symbolization of women, and class and race relations. Designed for students new to feminist biblical and intersectional scholarship, the volume includes contributions from Carolyn J. Sharp, Vanessa Lynn Lovelace, Corrine L. Carvalho, Melody Knowles, and Judy Fentress-Williams.
