Bookshop owner Gemma Doyle travels to London for her sister Pippa's wedding. At her hotel, she encounters her ex-husband Paul Erikson, who claims to have a rare book he wants to show her. They arrange to meet at Trafalgar Fine Books the next day, but when Gemma arrives with Grant, a rare book dealer, she finds Paul dead in his office.
