About this book

The final three volumes of Howard Fast's Immigrants saga follow Barbara Lavette from activist to family matriarch across the latter part of the twentieth century. The Legacy takes place during the 1960s as Barbara, daughter of Italian immigrant Dan Lavette, navigates the Vietnam War, the feminist and civil rights movements, and Israel's Six Day War with Egypt. The Immigrant's Daughter finds Barbara at sixty living quietly in San Francisco after the death of a close friend. When she launches a congressional campaign, she reconnects with her earlier work as a journalist and human rights activist. An Independent Woman concludes Barbara's story as she marries a Unitarian priest and travels the world with him, before facing a significant personal challenge. The three novels together span more than a century of Lavette family history.
