The Lost Story: A Novel

Inspired by C. S. Lewis's The Chronicles of Narnia, this novel follows two men whose lives were forever changed by a mysterious disappearance. As boys, best friends Jeremy Cox and Rafe Howell vanished in a West Virginia state forest for six months before reappearing with no explanation. Fifteen years later, Rafe is a reclusive artist with no memory of those lost months, while Jeremy has become a renowned missing persons' investigator. When tech worker Emilie Wendell asks Jeremy to help find her sister—who has vanished in the same forest—Jeremy recognizes the truth: the siblings were taken to a magical realm. Jeremy alone remembers the fantastical world he and Rafe inhabited during their disappearance, but he has kept this knowledge from Rafe for reasons of his own. As the search for Emilie's sister begins, the former lost boys must return to the enchanted world they once called home and confront the traumatic memories they've buried. Only by facing their shared past can they hope to recover what they've lost.
