About this book

The Prince is a political treatise by Niccolò Machiavelli, a Florentine public servant and political theorist. Originally titled De Principatibus (About Principalities), it was written in 1513 but remained unpublished until 1532, five years after Machiavelli's death. The work was not representative of what Machiavelli published during his lifetime, yet it became his most remembered piece. It is responsible for bringing the term "Machiavellian" into widespread use as a pejorative. Some critics have suggested the treatise may be a satire.
