About this book

Nicole Parker's memoir recounts her experience as an FBI Special Agent and her observations of what she describes as two competing factions within the Bureau. She witnessed colleagues murdered during a search warrant execution without SWAT support, while SWAT teams were deployed for January 6 misdemeanor cases. Parker identifies "FBI 1" as agents dedicated to impartial law enforcement, and "FBI 2" as those using their authority to advance personal political and social agendas through lowered hiring standards and unequal law enforcement. Parker left a finance career to serve in the FBI, where she investigated serious crimes including the Parkland school shooting and murder-for-hire cases. She also experienced the loss of a fellow agent in a preventable tragedy. Over her dozen years of service, she observed what she saw as increasing politicization, including differing treatment in investigations involving Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, as well as the handling of January 6 and the Mar-a-Lago raid. Ultimately, Parker left the Bureau believing that accountability and drastic changes were necessary to restore the FBI's integrity and public trust. Her account combines crime investigation narratives with her perspective on institutional corruption and the struggle between these two competing visions within the agency.
