Through recipes, stories, archival photos, and visuals, the book captures the essence of the store and the Vermont way of life—one characterized by self-reliance and a slower pace. The cookbook tells the history of five generations of Orton storekeepers and features approximately 120 updated and original family recipes rooted in fresh-from-the-farm cooking. These recipes blend traditional Vermont cuisine with contemporary tastes for modern cooks. The book includes sidebars on Vermont history and more than 200 photographs, combining black-and-white archival images with four-color photographs taken specifically for publication.
