Perfect for you if...

  • You're drawn to true crime that focuses on the investigative cat-and-mouse game rather than sensationalism alone.
  • You want to understand how predators operate in plain sight, exploiting trust and normalcy as cover.
  • You appreciate detailed reporting from someone with serious journalism credentials, not armchair speculation.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You're looking for a quick, lurid page-turner without the forensic detail and methodical breakdown.
  • You need distance from graphic descriptions of sexual violence and its victims.
  • You prefer narratives focused on the investigator's triumph rather than the killer's long evasion of justice.

About this book

To Kill and Kill Again documents the twelve-year crime spree of Wayne Nance, a furniture mover from Missoula, Montana, known as the "Missoula Mauler." To his neighbors, Nance appeared friendly and trustworthy. In reality, he was a psychopath responsible for a series of sadistic sex murders between 1974 and 1986 that shocked the community. Nance selected victims based solely on accessibility—a preacher's wife, a teenage runaway, a female acquaintance, and a married couple among them. He used his affable demeanor to gain victims' trust before committing murder. His crime spree came to an unexpected end one September night when the thirty-year-old targeted a couple who survived the attack. Written by former Wall Street Journal editor John Coston and featuring photographs, this account examines how Nance deceived those around him, eluded authorities, and nearly escaped justice.
