How to Age Disgracefully: A Novel

When Lydia begins working at the Senior Citizens' Social Club three afternoons a week, she expects a quiet environment of tea and card games. Instead, she encounters members with surprising depths: Art, a former actor turned kleptomaniac; Daphne, who has concealed a dark past for decades; and Ruby, a knitter who uses her craft for revenge in the style of Banksy. These seniors appear harmless on the surface, but their invisibility in society allows them to keep secrets easily. When the city council moves to sell the community center building, the Social Club members unite with the daycare next door, a teenage father from the daycare, and an elderly dog to prevent the sale. Using unconventional tactics, this unlikely group works together to save the building—though they must stay ahead of the police while doing so.
