Julia Blumer returns to her hometown of Gull's Harbor, California, a seaside community north of San Diego, when her sisters Sophie and Emily call her home because their mother Babs is critically ill. Julia hopes to repair the estrangement that began ten years ago after a major fight, but Babs is unhappy to see her. While settling into her childhood bedroom, Julia is startled to discover her former boyfriend Liam Murphy—the boy next door—living in his family's house across the way. As she watches him through her window, Julia realizes her attraction to him has never faded, despite breaking his heart when she left a decade earlier. As Babs's health declines, family secrets emerge and past conflicts resurface.
