About this book

Artillery has long been called the 'king of battle.' During World War II, the United States deployed self-propelled howitzers, including models based on the M4 Sherman tank chassis. After 1945, the US developed light and medium self-propelled howitzers using the M24 Chaffee, M41 Walker Bulldog, and Sherman chassis. Early designs had significant problems, and self-propelled artillery played only a minor role in the Korean War. By the mid-1960s, the M107 175mm, M109 155mm, and M110 203mm self-propelled howitzers entered service and proved effective during the Vietnam War. The M107 was retired in the late 1970s but saw important use with the Israeli Defense Forces. The M109 served with the US Army and many NATO armies, seeing action in the Middle East, the Balkans, the liberation of Kuwait, and the invasion of Iraq. After roughly sixty years in service, the M109 remains the US Army's current self-propelled howitzer in its M109A7 variant. The M110 203mm saw widespread service before retirement in the early 1990s. This book details the technical development and operational history of the M107, M109, and M110, along with available modeling kits and accessories across popular scales. It includes a modeling gallery of variants and large-scale color profiles for modelers and military enthusiasts.
