Metropolis: A Novel

Six people with different backgrounds and secrets are connected through the Metropolis Storage Warehouse in Cambridge, Massachusetts. When someone falls down an elevator shaft at the facility, each becomes entangled in a series of escalating events. The characters include Serge, a street photographer living in his storage unit among thousands of undeveloped photographs; Marta, an undocumented immigrant completing her dissertation; Liddy, an abused wife and mother who recreates her children's bedroom in her unit; Jason, a former corporate lawyer now practicing in the facility; Rose, the office manager who accepts illegal kickbacks; and Zach, the building's owner and former drug dealer, who examines Serge's photos while investigating the incident. The death raises questions: accident, murder attempt, or suicide? As the characters move through each other's lives seeking answers while confronting forces beyond their control, the novel explores what people hold onto, what they must release, and how unexpected events can reveal deeper truths. The narrative builds toward a climactic conclusion.
