About this book

Recently widowed, retired doctor Sarah Vane moves to the seaside town of Merstairs seeking a fresh start. While helping her old friend Daphne clear out a beach hut to store her belongings, they discover a heavy trunk containing the body of Gus Trubshaw, the local pub landlord. Sarah determines he was suffocated. When the police show little interest in the case, Sarah decides to investigate herself. She uncovers that Gus had enemies: scoutmaster Bill, recently banned from the pub; Charles, an antique store owner who previously owned the beach hut; and brewery director Mr. Grimes, who had a financial dispute with Gus. As Sarah pieces together clues, the prime suspect is found strangled on the beach. The discovery of a deadly secret linking the two murders convinces Sarah that a dangerous killer is at large in Merstairs. With the town in panic and time running short, Sarah races to solve the mystery before another victim falls.
