Night Night Fawn: A Novel

In a rent-controlled Manhattan apartment, terminally ill Barbara Rosenberg, high on opioids, writes an account of her life. She reflects on her late husband, her work as a receptionist for a plastic surgeon, her past as an accomplished jazzerciser, and her failed aspirations to be a film noir actress. Barbara's primary focus, however, is her estranged trans son and a long-lost best friend whose betrayal continues to haunt her. She also explores her thoughts on gender, Karl Marx, and Zionism. As her illness worsens and she descends into delirium, Barbara encounters these figures again—or confronts them as avenging nemeses. Part novel and part unauthorized memoir, Night Night Fawn combines diatribe, dark humor, and manifesto-like commentary to examine intergenerational conflict.
