  • You collect research materials on the Afrikakorps and want archive photographs paired with expert colour illustrations of actual vehicles in service.

Maybe not for you if...

  • You're looking for a narrative history or strategic analysis of the North African campaign. This is a technical reference, not a battle story.

About this book

The Pzkpfw III was the most effective tank available to the German army in North Africa during 1941, outnumbering all other tank types in the Afrikakorps at that time. Compared to the Pzkpfw I and II, it was a modern and potent weapons system. Though less heavily armored than British opponents, it was sturdy and reliable, with main armament equal to contemporary enemy anti-tank guns. This first of two volumes in the TankCraft series covers the Pzkpfw III's North African service from the arrival of Panzer-Regiment 5 in Tripoli through the advance to El Alamein in late 1942. Dennis Oliver uses archive photographs and extensively researched color illustrations to examine the tank and the Panzer units involved in early North African battles. The book includes a section on available model kits and aftermarket products, along with a gallery of constructed and painted models in various scales. Technical details, production modifications, and field alterations are examined, providing information for modelers seeking to recreate accurate representations of these tanks.
