Starship Superior

Owen Lake, a boat captain on Lake Superior, has avoided space since witnessing his astronaut mother's death. When his charter business falters, Dr. Mariana Keller offers him work investigating a mysterious blue glow beneath the lake's surface. During a dive to an ancient shipwreck with Keller and his dog Jack, Owen is pulled into an underwater hole and discovers a highly advanced, unmanned spacecraft. The ship's AI, which Owen names Jefferson, offers a bargain: become a temporary crew member in exchange for rescuing Keller and Jack. Owen agrees. After the rescue, Jefferson places them in stasis and launches the ship toward deep space. Eleven months later, Owen awakens to find himself biologically enhanced to survive in space, granting him abilities beyond human limits. Jefferson reveals the true terms: Owen must lead a millennia-old quest for revenge against the enemy Federation, or Keller and Jack remain frozen forever. Owen is now forced to fight a war that began 100,000 years before his birth.
