Ji-won's life unravels after her father's infidelity and departure. Her mother becomes distraught, her younger sister is hurt and confused, her college grades fail, and her dreams turn horrifying—filled with bloody rooms and eyes. When her mother's new boyfriend George moves in, Ji-won's disturbing dreams intensify, fixating on his blue eyes. George is obnoxious and condescending, bragging about his consulting job, ogling Asian waitresses, and treating Ji-won and her sister dismissively. As Ji-won's hunger and rage grow, victims accumulate around her campus. This novel explores the making of a female serial killer from a Korean-American perspective, examining misogyny, Asian fetishization and stereotypes, and the experience of navigating two cultures. It is also a story of a family in turmoil and their attempt to find their way back to each other. The Eyes Are the Best Part was a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award and the Shirley Jackson Award, and was selected for TIME Magazine's 100 Must-Read Books of 2024.
