The Federalist Papers is a collection of eighty-five political essays written by three United States Founding Fathers: Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison. Originally published anonymously in New York newspapers in 1787 and 1788, these articles explain and defend the principles underlying the U.S. Constitution. The essays address topics including impeachment, corruption, bureaucracy, and regulation. Thomas Jefferson described them as the best commentary ever written on the principles of government.
