About this book

A saga set in war-torn Europe, following sixteen-year-old Dora Behar and her cousin Sarah in Rhodes, 1940. The two are close as sisters, painting sunsets over the Mediterranean, until Nazi rise to power darkens their Jewish district. Facing discrimination and war, Dora's family makes an impossible choice that transforms her life forever. Decades later in 2023, the war exists primarily in memory for most. Yet for one young artist, the conflict persists as a recurring painting: a solitary figure at an abandoned harbor's edge, watching a ship depart, unaware it will never return to Rhodes. Based on real historical events, the novel explores themes of hope and longing across these two timelines. This is the first book in the Art of Resistance series.
