Voodoo Hoodoo Spellbook

Voodoo Hoodoo is the distinctive form of Creole Voodoo practiced in New Orleans. This spellbook compiles over 300 authentic Voodoo and Hoodoo recipes, rituals, and spells addressing love, justice, gambling luck, prosperity, health, and success. Denise Alvarado, a cultural psychologist and root worker who grew up in New Orleans, draws on a lifetime of knowledge acquired from family, friends, and local practitioners. She documents the history of African-based folk magic brought by enslaved people to New Orleans and traces how it incorporated influences from Native American spirituality, Catholicism, and Pentecostalism. The book includes her research into folklore collections and 19th- and 20th-century formularies alongside her own magical practices. The spellbook contains more than 100 spells for banishing, binding, fertility, luck, protection, money, and other purposes. It introduces the Pantheon of Voodoo Spirits, the Seven African Powers, important Loas, prayers, novenas, and psalms. Specific sections cover oils and potions, Hoodoo powders and gris gris, talismans, candle magic, curses, and hexes.
